What is A2P 10DLC? Registration and SMS Compliance

A2P 10DLC is the standard phone service carriers created to verify that SMS traffic is consensual. Guidelines came into effect in 2021 that require A2P 10DLC registration with The Campaign Registry (TCR) for all businesses by August 31, 2023. American and Canadian companies who contact American phone numbers and complete their registration after that date will have their messages blocked. Below, you'll see what exactly A2P 10DLC is.

Application-to-person (A2P) refers to text messages (SMS and MMS) in which the recipient gets messages from an application instead of an individual. Conversely, person-to-person (P2P) refers to text messages sent from one person to another.

10 Digit Long Code (10DLC) has ten digits, like a local or a toll-free phone number.

10DLC numbers support transactional and promotional text messages. Businesses use 10DLC to send text messages because they have advantages over the short code numbers sometimes used for business SMS campaigns. Those advantages include lower costs and higher delivery and send rates.

A2P / 10DLC is a service that requires us to submit a company's EIN or a sole proprietor's social security number. Please provide one or the other in the questionaire below.

All subscriptions are subject to the Terms and Conditions & Privacy Policy, and filling out your information and submitting it below constitutes an Agreement between you and the Company. Cancellation of any subscription requires thirty (30) days' written notice, more than thirty (30) days before your next monthly renewal, to withdraw your subscription. All paid subscription fees are non-refundable.

Why do I need to provide my Business name and EIN, or my social security number if I'm a sole propietor?

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 was amended in 2019 to require that anyone sending text message from an appliation to a person (A2P) must register with their business or personal information including name address, email, phone, and EIN (or Social Security Number if a person). This went into effect August 2024.
